A Message About the New Gluten-Free Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookie

Direct ship sales of the Gluten Free Caramel Chocolate Chip cookie are tracking significantly higher than anticipated and ABC Bakers recently notified us that the cookie is sold out on online. Due to high demand, Girl Scouts of Orange County has also sold out of the supply of any additional cookies we had available to troops. Troops who ordered the cookie in advance of the sale may still have it in their inventory.

Girl Scouts of Orange County will alert our members if we receive notice from ABC Bakers if they become available again online.

Please email customercare@girlscoutsoc.org with any additional questions.

How to Prepare Your Cookie Pro For Questions About Prop 65

In accordance with new regulations, which took effect in August of 2018, we are required to print California’s Proposition 65 Warning this year on cookie order cards and rewards flyers and display the warning at booth sales. The new regulations impact many California retailers, restaurants, and grocery stores.

We are confident that customers will still want to enjoy Girl Scout Cookies – a time-honored treat. If you do have customers ask about the Prop 65 warning, we have created the resource “How to prepare your Cookie Pro for questions about Prop 65” to support you and your Girl Scout with this year’s program.

Copies of the notice were sent to your Service Unit Materials Coordinator. Your Troop Cookie Coordinator can provide you with a notice for your table. A printable version is also available here. For additional guidance around Prop 65, please review our 2019 Cookie Program FAQ and Girl Scouts’ Proposition 65 FAQ.

If you have additional questions that these materials do not answer, contact us at customercare@girlscoutsoc.org.

Troop Initial Order Due by January 8, 2019!

The only way to guarantee having cookies on the first day of the cookie sale is to place an initial order in ABCSmartCookies by 11:59pm on January 8, 2019. We encourage troops to place an initial order for 85% of the cookies their troop plans to sell. But remember- there are no limits (minimum or maximum) on initial orders!

All troops should include a booth sale order with their initial cookie order to guarantee they will have cookies. Cupboards will open on January 31, 2019 and they will be very busy the first couple of weeks of the sale. Partner with your Troop Leaders to determine your initial booth sale order before January 8, 2019.

If you need advice on how to determine your initial order please contact your Service Unit Cookie Manager (Cookie Roster can be found on the Volunteer Network).

How to Invite Parents to Help!

Have you asked your Girl Scouts families for help? Seems like no one is reading your emails? Try these five techniques for getting more adult involvement:

  1.  Ask in a positive, upbeat way! Showcase the fun side of each volunteer opportunity. Girl Scouts welcomes family helpers!
  2. Invite parents to a briefing to explain their role! Find fun opportunities for parents to engage in the Girl Scout experience for a day or more!
  3. Match talents to tasks! A mom who is good with numbers will enjoy being a Troop Treasurer, a dad with a sales background could be a great Troop Cookie Coordinator, and a grandparent might be willing to be your emergency contact during an outing.
  4. Divide jobs into smaller tasks! Now is the time to recruit a Troop Cookie Support Team where one person does the online computer tasks, another picks up more cookies at cupboards, and a third person tracks cookies and money.
  5. Say Thank You! Recognize individual efforts with a Girl Scout ceremony where girls can present adults with a Girl Scout pin and a handmade card.

Girl Scout roles such as snack provider or badge helper are supervised by the Leadership Team and have no special requirements. Roles involving girl supervision or money management require adults to become official volunteers and completing a background screening. See your Volunteer Essentials Handbook for more helpful ideas!

Stellar Skills Contest: Through March 31

Calling all Orange County Girl Scouts who have standout cookie business skills! We want first-time sellers and veteran cookie pros alike to enter the Stellar Skills contest. One girl will be selected to represent each of the 5 Skills: Goal Setting, Decision Making, People Skills, Business Ethics, and Money Management. Our Steller Skills girls and their families will be invited to attend the Stellar Sellers Dinner, receive a special recognition of their Stellar Skills, and earn a fun patch! Complete the online entry form by March 31 to enter.
