Tips for Troops!

Be ready to participate in our 2020 Girl Scout Cookie Program! See below for some Tips for Troops or click here for a printable flyer.

  1. Ensure all Girl Scouts are registered for 2020.
    • Check your Girl Roster in the Volunteer Toolkit.
    • If any girl is not showing up, determine if she needs to register, renew or complete a transfer request. Email for assistance.
  2. Recruit a Cookie Team of adult volunteers.
    • Refer to our flyer for ideas on how to divide up the tasks.
    • Don’t do it all yourself.
  3. Ensure your Cookie Team is ready for training!
    • Check to see if adult volunteers are registered with a current background screening on file.
    • Volunteers should register for classroom training or set-up an ID and password for GSOCLearning site to complete training online.
  4. Submit Troop Banking form.
  5. Set Goals with Girls!
    • What do your girls want to learn this year? Who do they want to help? Where would they like to go?
    • Once your girls have set goals, you can determine how much money is needed to fund their plans…that’s your troop’s cookie goal!
  6. Be in the know!

How to Invite Parents to Help!

Have you asked your Girl Scouts families for help? Seems like no one is reading your emails? Try these five techniques for getting more adult involvement:

  1.  Ask in a positive, upbeat way! Showcase the fun side of each volunteer opportunity. Girl Scouts welcomes family helpers!
  2. Invite parents to a briefing to explain their role! Find fun opportunities for parents to engage in the Girl Scout experience for a day or more!
  3. Match talents to tasks! A mom who is good with numbers will enjoy being a Troop Treasurer, a dad with a sales background could be a great Troop Cookie Coordinator, and a grandparent might be willing to be your emergency contact during an outing.
  4. Divide jobs into smaller tasks! Now is the time to recruit a Troop Cookie Support Team where one person does the online computer tasks, another picks up more cookies at cupboards, and a third person tracks cookies and money.
  5. Say Thank You! Recognize individual efforts with a Girl Scout ceremony where girls can present adults with a Girl Scout pin and a handmade card.

Girl Scout roles such as snack provider or badge helper are supervised by the Leadership Team and have no special requirements. Roles involving girl supervision or money management require adults to become official volunteers and completing a background screening. See your Volunteer Essentials Handbook for more helpful ideas!

How to Participate:

Then, bring the donated items to the collection site in your area before 2:00 p.m. on November 23rd. (see link in calendar for a list of collection sites)
  2. Organize a local mini-drive – Customizable fliers to advertise your collection event!  Meet with your school or a local business/organization to get approval to leave a collection box at their location.
